Extra Post December

Last week the flooring was redone.  Believe it or not, this is actually a special type of carpet that doesn't absorb any moisture.  The old laminate was put in too close together which is not good.  It's a change but much better.

Extra Post November (belated)

The  break has really thrown me out of whack.  I haven't been checking my email so I drove to mentorship not knowing the 7am class was cancelled :(

Blog 9: EQ

1. I reviewed the rule of three for writing an EQ

2.
 a.  What is the most important factor in healthy weight loss

  • This EQ seems to be proficient, pretty sure it was one from last year, but it could be a lot more specific. Like changing "weight loss" to a specific BMI or fat percentage

 b.  What is most important to securing a conviction in a criminal investigation?

  • This EQ is better than the last but "most important" could be elaborated more. Like "important factor" or "important resource".
 c.  What is most important in creating a hairstyle that best satisfies a customer?

  • This EQ is fine the way it is, it's specific enough to give more precise answers.
 d.  How can an Anesthesiologist best treat chronic pain?

  • This EQ looks fine, just maybe specify what type of chronic pain?

3.  I'm having trouble finding specific answers for "How can Bikram Yoga increase strength and flexibility in young adults". I'm thinking that it might be too specific. I might change it to something along the lines of "What is the most helpful benefit of practicing Bikram Yoga".

Extra Post October

Although I seem to be getting the "hard" yoga poses I completely and utterly fail at the "easy" ones.

Blog 8 Research and Working EQ

1) My working EQ is How does Bikram Yoga increase strength and flexibility in young adults

2)

  • The elevated temperature in the room allows muscles to build and stretch without the needed for an extended warm up.
  • Bikram Yoga's repetitious sequence of poses allows greater focus on proper form instead of worrying about new poses.
3) The article How Yoga Can Wreck Your Body by William J Broad has been the most influential, its really terrifying how people can get permanently injured doing yoga and its make me a lot more careful.

4) My mentor is Vanessa Gomez, manager at Bikram Yoga Rancho Cucamonga. I have been practicing yoga to experience its benefits first hand.

Blog 7 independent component 1

1) I plan on doing 30 more hours of mentorship for my independent component, it will include working reception (which entails answering phones and logging transactions) and attending classes.
2) I will log all activities on a spreadsheet as well as post pictures to my blog.
3) I think that the more I am involved in the studio the more I will understand my topic. Especially since I will have to answer questions on the phone and at the front desk.

Blog 5: Project Reflection and Working EQ

1. So far I have learned much about the safety and procedures of Bikram yoga but have yet to begin practicing.

2. My first interview was very useful, my mentor was able to answer specific questions and help me understand the most important facets of the subject.

3. So far I have gotten lucky finding a mentor and a good place for mentorship. I'm fortunate that the staff is willing to teach me about yoga and how to run their business.

4. I am yet to actually get into the studio. The grand opening got pushed back yet again because the city of Rancho Cucamonga is difficult to work with, however my mentor will start training me on Saturday.

5. I'm thinking maybe how does Bikram yoga help improve strength and flexibility because something like weight loss or injuries would be hard to keep track of.
Starting this weekend I plan on volunteering a few hours a week as a receptionist at the studio.

Blog 3: ESLR Goals

1. Bikram Yoga
2. This year I will stay on top of homework by turning assignments in on time, make sure all group members are on the same page before dividing work, keep written assignments on google drive to avoid compatibility issues/be able to work from anywhere and to be able to complete assignments without having someone walk me through step by step.

Blog 2: Summer Mentorship

1. 10 hours of extremely exhausting work. Sunday, August 11, 2013. Setting up chairs and ring boundaries, received judging credentials, judged assorted divisions, put away chairs and took down ring boundaries.

2. Ned Reber 909.948.1777  or 909.803.2777

3. What happens to judges who were assigned rings but did not check in on time or did not check in at all?
Why must judges adjust scores using standard deviation?
How can it be sure that a judge is being fair?
Does the standard deviation really eliminate bias?
Is the new IPad scoring system more effective?

4. I feel like I've earned a new respect for tournament officials. It is a lot of work to keep everything running smoothly and on time. The most important thing I've learned is the unique scoring method. Instead of scoring competitors in a scale of 1-10 they are ranked from 1st to last place and scored accordingly by 3 judges. This prevents ties and can help a competitors confidence being scored like this instead of being rated on how close they are to perfection.

5. After this ordeal, I doubt that I will pick sport karate as my senior topic.  It's such a broad topic and difficult to explain and come up with a good essential question for.

2. I want to know more about the independent components, it sounds like there are more than one and that everyone's is different.

3. I'm thinking mentorship might be the most important part, that and research.  Its important to know the material to give a good presentation.

4. I'm thinking of doing something with plants like hydroponic growing because its really interesting but if I cant find a mentor I'll just do karate because I've been doing it for 7 years.
